Entry 9
Later that afternoon I was milking some of the native fauna for Fresh Milk. It is a scarce thing out here. Just as I filled another bottle, the ground started to shake violently. The animal I was milking blated in terror and bolted, spilling the bottle into the dirt.
Then came the roar. Deafening. It seemed to come from everywhere at once. The light vanished a moment later as something massive passed overhead. I looked up just in time to see a gigantic worm, no, gigantic is putting it lightly, gargantuan worm, leap over my head in a blur of muscle and force. I went flat against the ground, hoping it would pass over me unnoticed.
It roared again and burrowed into the earth a few hundred units away, causing a minor quake. Then it surfaced farther off, leapt, and burrowed again. Over and over, until the shaking faded and its voice became nothing more than a distant echo rolling across the land.
When I finally stood, I brushed the dirt from my suit and trousers and picked up the bottle I had dropped. There was still a little milk left inside. For a moment I almost drank it, then remembered that I am, unfortunately, still a robot. I don't think my electrical connections would appriciate it.
So I poured the rest onto the ground and tucked the bottle back into my backpack beside the three full ones I had managed to save. The herd was gone by then. No sign of them anywhere.
