Entry 23 - Black Canyon system

Entry 23

Left Cain and flew to Aura, Alkelina XII's second moon. The air here is burning, choking. My systems aren't too happy with it.

The flora and minerals here have pink highlights, very pretty. Landed at night. Air is filled with green fireflies. Despite the steaming atmosphere, the planet feels homely, almost kind in a strange way.

Went to inspect local flora. Designation: C. Churnasus. Large trees, around 5 meters high with large petals at the top, all with pink rims. The leaves have a sticky, sweet smelling fluid stuck to them and their filled up with fireflies. Assumedly carnivorous.

Also noted interesting minerals. Designation: Liflardeite. Dense, irregular formation with high metal content, surface obsidian-black with embedded crimson veins that emit a faint internal glow. Structure appears rapidly formed through evaporative processes; unstable morphology suggests intense thermal or energetic stress during solidification. When hitting it, it makes a suprising musical sound. I was so engrossed in the music i was making, but just in time, some remnant of my soul, a sixth sense if you will, went off.

I looked behind me and was bashed to the ground by a three meter hulking beast. Looked most like a massive spider but with 4 legs, a beetle like snout with a long horn, too many eyes to count in the moment and a breath that stank of rotten meat. He opened his jaw, ready to swallow me whole.

Meanwhile i scrambled to grab my staff from below me, i had fallen on top of it, and just in time i recovered it and blasted 4 shots of my Scattergun into his stinking throat. It let out a suprised scream and dropped stone dead at my feet.

As i stood up, carefully, i scanned around. Now i saw them scittering between the treelines, hiding behind the large rocks, waiting for unsuspecting prey to walk right past them. Their large, purple plated backs made them almost indecernable from the flora and minerals, all in the same color pallete. Decided to leave the planet well alone afterwards.

Maybe this wasn't as kind a place as I thought. Maybe it was a place looking to be kind, so it could trap you and swallow you whole.
